FAQ — What Does Under-Resourced Mean?

Posted on by SpokaneYFC

Our mission at Spokane Youth for Christ is to break the cycle of poverty in under-resourced neighborhoods by raising young leaders who live in the communities we serve.

But what does the term “under-resourced neighborhood” mean?

Under-resourced neighborhoods are areas that do not receive the same amount of resources as middle-class or advantaged neighborhoods. This means that:

  • Schools are often under-funded.
  • Children may not have easy access to the local library.
  • People may not be involved in increasing the well-being of their community.
  • It is low-income.
  • Children do not have the opportunity to engage in extra-curricular activities.

By concentrating on under-resourced neighborhoods, we increase the likelihood that we will break generational poverty cycles by empowering youth living in those neighborhoods.
